Enviromental

Porcupine Wood Products woodlands department manages two volume-based forest licenses located in the Selkirk Forest District with a total AAC of 70,000 m3. The forest license tenure commences at the eastern extent of Kootenay Lakes West Arm and extends northward in fragmented parcels into the upper reaches of the Duncan River drainage.

We are committed to sustainable forestry practices, the preservation of ecological process and integrity and maintaining a strong social license through collaboration with local communities within the Regional District of Central Kootenay. Our silviculture planning begins before a site is harvested and determines the optimal silviculture treatments to achieve a ‘free-growing’ stand. Silviculture activities improve plantability, aid in fire mitigation and help determine the species and density of tree replantation. We utilize local nurseries and contractors throughout our silviculture process and plant an average for 260,000 trees annually.

Safety

Though the success of Porcupine Wood Products depends on production, the safety of our workers will remain more important.  People will always be our most important resource and their safety is our greatest responsibility.

We believe a good safety record is clear evidence of good management and based on this, all accidents are preventable.

It is the responsibility of all employees to follow safety rules and regulations and report any unsafe conditions.

We support ongoing safety initiatives through monthly safety committee meetings.
